What a beginner course costs
A six-hour beginner course — the block every school here sells as the beginner package — runs $300–465 private, or $150–260 per person if you share the instructor, taken from three schools’ own published price lists, re-checked 2 Aug 2026.

Sharing is the single biggest lever on what you pay. The same six hours costs less than half as much per person in a family group as it does one-to-one, and every school in Paje prices it that way.

Each figure is quoted on that school’s own price list, checked 2 Aug 2026. Gear is included where the list says so — Hakuna Matata’s list, for one, includes gear and an IKO certificate, same date.
What moves this price
Four things, in rough order of leverage — none of them haggling:
- Sharing. The table above is the whole story: a family of four at $150 per person pays $600 for what would cost $1,200–1,860 privately.
- Hours beyond six. The schools’ own lists sell 9-, 10- and 12-hour courses beyond the beginner block — if six hours turns out not to be enough, the budget question is the longer course, not a renegotiation of the short one.
- Season. Paje teaches in the two wind seasons the schools themselves advertise. Our own price history begins 30 Jul 2026 and has not yet crossed a season boundary, so we cannot yet say whether the published prices move with season — when we can, this page will say so with dates.
- School. The private-lesson spread between the cheapest and dearest school on their own lists is $165. That is a real difference in what is included and how they teach, not a discount waiting to be negotiated.
What the range actually means
If you are on your own, you are looking at $300–465 for the six-hour beginner block — and the difference between schools is real, not a discount you can haggle for.
If you are two or more, share the instructor. At $150 per person in a family group, four people pay $600 — less than half what four private courses would cost.
How we checked
We opened each school’s own price page and read the published rate — no resellers, no aggregators, no quotes relayed by a booking site. Where a school publishes only a “from” price without a breakdown, we left it out rather than guess. When we re-check, the superseded reading is kept, dated, in our public fact ledger — history accumulates; it is never overwritten.
